Our School Calendar

Our school year is pretty similar to a traditional school schedule. We take off a lot of the same days for holiday breaks as the local public schools. We do differ in some ways, and while it changes year to year, below you will find the basic layout for how our year runs.

We always start the day after Labor Day. The next day, Tuesday, is the first day for our five-day students and our two-day (Tuesday/Thursday) students. The Wednesday after Labor Day is the first day for our three-day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) students.

We are always closed for Veterans Day as well as Wednesday, Thursday (Thanksgiving Day), and Friday the week of Thanksgiving.

For Christmas, we are closed two full weeks as well as the Monday following Christmas break (and sometimes Tuesday depending on how New Years Day falls.

We are closed Good Friday and the following week is our Spring Break.

Our last day of school is always the Friday before Memorial Day. Our four year old and Kindergarten graduation is the Wednesday evening before the last day of school.

We also have a few random days off and Teacher Work Days sprinkled in the calendar depending on our training dates and the public school calendar (most of our teachers are moms of school-aged kiddos).

Tuition is based on the number of days we have school. We do not charge for closings and we also have a few buffer days for weather related closings. Our tuition is not prorated for closings since those days were not counted for when planning our tuition prices. Our tuition is an annual price that can be paid up front, or broken into ten equal monthly payments (August 1st-May1st) that do not change based on the number of days we are in school that month.

Our two-day (Tuesday/Thursday) students attend school 67 days each school year. Our three-day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) students attend school 95 days each school year. Our five-day (Monday-Friday) students attend school 162 days each school year.

We do not offer make-up days or refunds if a child is absent or if we close for inclement weather. Students cannot switch to another day if they missed their scheduled day. We sure miss our students when they are not at school due to an illness or vacation, but we do not have space for them to attend on their off days.

We LOVE our students and enjoy our days with them so much!!

*Our calendars are made available each spring for the following school year. You can find it posted here on our blog, on our website, and our Facebook page.

Drop-off and Pick-Up

We love welcoming our little friends to school each morning! Below you will find what our drop-off and pick-up looks like each day.

For the first week of school, we offer a staggered start each morning so parents are able to walk their child to class. We do not have enough parking spaces for every parent to arrive at the same time so it is very important that you follow your child's assigned time.

Kindergarten students may be walked in between 8:55am to 9:05am

Four Year Old students may be walked in between 9:05am and 9:15am

Three Year Old students may be walked in between 9:15am and 9:25am

Two Year Old students may be walked in between 9:25am and 9:35am

If you have children in multiple classes, please arrive at your youngest child's assigned time.

Starting week two, we do not allow morning walk in. All students must be dropped off in our morning drop-off line outside. Cars enter our drop-off line on the right side of our building and circle around the back of the building. Cones, signs, and staff members will direct you where to go. Drop-off line starts at 9am. Teachers come to your car for you to hand your child off and the teachers walk them to class. Again, we do not have enough parking spaces for all parents to park, and it creates a dangerous situation, so all students must utilize the morning drop-off line.

In the afternoons, we offer walk-ins every day starting at 12:30pm. Every parent will need to exit the parking lot by 12:45pm for us to begin pick-up line. If you arrive after 12:40, you will not be permitted to walk-in and will need to get in the pick-up line. Because of our limited parking, we ask all families to utilize pick-up line some days so every family has an opportunity to walk-in. Again, all cars need to exit our parking lot by 12:45pm in order for us to start pick-up line on time.
Pick-up line is from 12:45pm to 1pm each day. Our drop-off/pick-up line wraps around the building and then splits into two lines in our parking lot. You can get in either line, regardless of which direction you are exiting the parking lot. Please do not leave large spaces between you and the car in front of you. Our staff will hand your child off to you for you to buckle. Our staff are not permitted to buckle any child. All cars will need to stay in park until you are directed out of the parking lot by our staff. All students must be picked up by 1pm.
We like to keep afternoon walk-ins/pick-up line flexible so you can do whatever works best for you each day, but if we have too many families walking-in each day, causing traffic issues in our parking lot, we will need to assign walk-in days for each class. This has not been an issue as many of our families choose pick-up line, but we will keep everyone posted if any changes need to be made.

Our number one priority during drop-off and pick-up is keeping our students safe. Please be patient and wait to move your car until you are instructed to do so. Also, please have your ID handy as you may be asked for it on several occasions until our staff know all the new faces. Thanks for your help with making the process smooth for everyone!!

Interested in enrolling?

We are SO excited that your family is interested in joining our family here at Coastal Day School!! Our school is full of amazing teachers and students and we are sure your little one would be a great addition! Our school year runs from the beginning of September through the end of May. Children must be the age of the classroom they wish to join by August 31st.

We do not offer private tours; however, we do offer Open Houses throughout the year for new families to come and see our facility, meet our staff, and ask any questions they may have! The only exception would be if you received a space in our program and you were unable to attend one of our Open Houses. We would then offer a private tour prior to your deadline to turn in paperwork and the New Student Fee. We advertise all Open Houses on our blog and our Facebook page.

If you found us mid-year and would like to be added to our waiting list (we only have a waiting list for our current year-we do not have waiting lists for future years), please email jodi@coastaldayschool.comPlease include your name, your child’s name, and your child’s birthdate. If a space opens, we will contact you to set up a private tour and go over all enrollment information with you. *Waiting lists do not roll over year to year. For example, if your child is on the waiting list this year for our two-year-old program, they do not automatically receive a space in the three-year-old program and will not be added to the three-year-old waiting list unless you add them. Our waiting lists start over every year after Open Enrollment in March.

Open Enrollment is March 1st each year at 7pm. This is done online and is first come, first serve. All information for enrollment is advertised on our blog beginning in mid-January. This is the only time to enroll unless you received a space from being on our waiting list. Again, we do not offer tours before or after enrollment unless you received a space and were unable to attend an Open House.

Please take the time to review our Handbook on our website and check out our old blog posts. We would be happy to answer any questions you were unable to find on there!!
